I would like to share, what I would like to think, as the most fabulous tree skirt known to man! Yes, it is the ruffle skirt from Pinterest, but mine is a little different... I used 2 colors! I will just show you some pictures from start to finish. I could not be happier with the finished product!
I started off by cutting my strips of fabric into 2" strips. I used an old red fabric I had in my scrap box and bought the burlap at Walmart for $2 something a yard. I used about 2 yards of each after it was done
I used my old tree skirt that I have had the past couple years and started glue gunning. No sewing involved!!!
Just start around the bottom and work your way up! It is not too hard just very time consuming.
Look how fabulous!

Oh my gosh, I love it.
ReplyDeleteI just did this, but i like yours so much better than mine!

This looks amazing!! Found it on Pinterest...cannot wait to try it myself. Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAwesomeballs! Planning to make it this wknd!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this... the best part? I can do it (no sewing) self!
ReplyDeleteLove love love this! it has the perfect touch of shimmery contrasted with burlap. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love this so much...I pinned it and am sharing it on Facebook! It looks fabulous...I think I need one under my tree!
ReplyDeleteI love this! My daughter has been looking for a tree skirt & we can make this together.
ReplyDeleteCan I make this without the skirt underneath? I bought the materials last night, but don't have an existing skirt.
ReplyDeleteMadorha, What I would do is use one of those cheap ugly dollar store skirts. It doesn't matter what it is right. Since it won't be seen.
DeleteOne could also use an inexpensive, round table cloth instead of an old tree skirt, as the base
DeleteOh my goodness...you are a genius!! The skirt is amazingly beautiful and I can't begin to tell you how much I LOVE tat it is no sew!!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! This was a really fun project!
ReplyDeleteMadorHa- You will need to have something to glue the strips to. A couple others I have made I just used an old piece of fabric and just cut it to the size and shape I wanted! Happy ruffling!!!
I LOVE This!!!!!! Thanks for posting
ReplyDeletethis is super cute! susan
ReplyDeleteoh soooo charming!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!!
I had seen a colored one on Pinterest but this one is absolutely stunning!
Primitive!
Thanks for the idea.
I'm off to check out my stash!
love this!!! i actually started something similar last night but i might switch gears and make it look more like yours. i love the red with the burlap, mine was looking so boring even before i put it together, and i love how you "ruffled" everything without sewing. Ruffles scare me because i can never do it right on my sewing machine. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteoh, and can i ask what the approximate circumference is? i started mine last night just using plain old muslin, and the circumference is 36 inches, but yours looks bigger than that so i was wondering. thanks again!
ReplyDeleteAnne, I know exactly how you feel. The thought of ruffles on a sewing machine scared me too! Mine is right around 56 inches!
ReplyDeletethanks!
ReplyDeleteI tried this a few weeks ago, major fail! I'm glad yours worked out! It's beautiful!

I love it. Worth to make for sure, glue blisters and all! Thanks for this idea.
ReplyDeleteI must say, I prefer the 2 colors to the 3
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of fabric is the red? I love this tree skirt. I have been looking for 5 years now for the perfect one and saw yours on pinterest and instantly thought the hunt is OVER!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! How cute is this!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWow that is stunning! I will be attempting to make my own version look just as gorgeous as yours once Christmas gets a little closer.

ReplyDeletei saw on pinterest that you can get the burlap in large quantities at a lowes for pretty cheap
ReplyDeletelove this. Just bought the burlap on amazon, now to find the perfect red for it. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou did AMAZING!!!
Love this! What a great idea--so stunning!
ReplyDeleteI am so not thinking about a tree skirt........I am thinking a skirt for me! I love ruffles!!!
ReplyDeletesooo my thoughts... i'd totally wear that! :D
Deletewhat did you use to glue it down? Seems like hot glue would take forever and be messy and all the fabric glue I've tried, each ruffle must be pinned down :( in order for it to have time to dry
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this is absolutely adorable! I am always looking for great DIY Christmas decoration ideas and this skirt is going to be this year's challenge! I love the burlap and red, so shabby chic!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I can't wait to make this! I always ended up with a white sheet because I never saw a tree skirt I liked. But now I do and I am gonna make it!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this featured on My Not So Glamorous Life blog, and had to come look. It's fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteDo you use a glue gun? Fabric glue? Elmers glue?
ReplyDeleteDo you use a glue gun? Fabric glue? Elmers glue?
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of glue was used? I just bought the burlap and got it for 60% off at Joanne's!
ReplyDeleteI used a glue gun! That's a great deal at Joann's!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of material is the red?
DeleteHow long are the strips that you cut? If the strip ends up being too short to finish a ring, is it easy to start where you left off with a new strip without it being noticeable?
ReplyDeleteHow do you get the ruffled effect?...Just pinch & glue? It seems like you would have to pin the ruffles in place to give them time to try.
ReplyDeleteI am obsessed! It's gorgeous! I would love for you to link to my "Do Your Thing" party! http://www.atkinsondrive.com/do-your-thing-link-party-week-1/
ReplyDeleteI have a 10.5 foot tree and it is has been impossible to find a tree skirt big enough for the base of the tree. This is absolutely wonderful, I can make it as big as I need it and the look is fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing your idea with everyone.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea!! I need to do this because my current tree skirt is a little small for my tree! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeletehi. considering making this with some friends. how many hours did it take you (if you remember)?
ReplyDeleteThank you and it is beautiful!

I made one out of a Christmas vinyl table cloth. Just cut a circle out of the middle, and then cut a split from center hole to outer edge. Fold the edges over twice, and stitch in place. Last, I made 8 draw string kind of stitches to create a scalloped edge all the way around. Then I added a few Velcro pieces the the split to keep it together once around the tree. It turned out SOO cute!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. It looks beautiful and I love the color combo too!
ReplyDeleteCould someone please tell me how to make the ruffles?!!! Please!
ReplyDeleteAll you do is fold over the material and glue it down.
ReplyDeleteGreat thank you :)
DeleteBought my burlap & fabric this afternoon. $1 off = $2.99/yrd! I hope mine turns out as well
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! Can't wait to try.
ReplyDeleteI made my own version of your tree skirt at my blog idpinthat.blogspot.com!
ReplyDeleteThanks for providing us such a information. We appreciate your information.

I'm thing about making a tree skirt like this for my mom. What type of fabric did you use for the red?

I just love this! It is so beautiful! My problem is I have been wanting a larger tree skirt. They don't seem to make them as big as I would like, but you have inspired me. I'm thinking I could take an old King bedspread, tarp, or table cloth and either make it in to a circle or simplify it by making a square or rectangular skirt. I've see some for sale recently that were square, but again not as big as I would like. So thank you very much for the inspiration!!
